The Circuit Clerk is responsible for recording and maintaining records in all Circuit Court proceedings. These proceedings include civil, criminal, divorce, child custody and support cases, adoptions, guardianship and conservator cases, mental health, domestic violence, juvenile delinquency, juvenile neglect and abuse cases and appeals from magistrate court. The Circuit Clerk also prepares cases appealed to the West Virginia Supreme Court from the Circuit Court. Additional responsibilities of the Clerk entail jury administration, accepting candidate filings and fees, ballot preparation and ordering ballots used in elections, bonds, witness management, tracking and accepting restitution payments, court costs and fines, filing fees, the preparation of accounting reports and distribution of fees to various county and state agencies, accepting home confinement payments and administeration to inmates placed on work release. The Circuit Clerk tracks and prepares monthly statistical reports to the required state agencies of the cases filed and disposed of for the Circuit Judge. |
